Cameraless

The camera has been at work with Mr. Gnome for the past week. I keep hopping it will come back to me. I've finished one sock and a piece of the sweater. They are quite lovely, wish you could see them.
This Sunday the LYS is starting a fall sweater knit along. I shall be joining them for a short time and then going off to a potluck picnic. I'm going to start the Marseilles Pullover. This goes against all my knitting ways; too much on the needles! I think I'll just knit the knit along sweater at knit group until I finish one of my at home knits.
Soon there shall be pictures again!

Banana French Toast

As per my usual no knitting to show post I give you food.
Banana French Toast from Vegan Brunch. It was a very mild banana flavor; fine by me I'm not a big banana fan. Topped with the suggested Cocoa and Cinnamon then some slightly squished raspberries. Advice for the week: Don't buy raspberries first thing at the farmer's market, the squish.
If you check her blog I plan on making that for dinner tonight.

And All

This summer has been so busy. I just haven't gotten to do as much of the little things I want to do. Such as the Blogging. Well here is what I've been knitting on.
The pattern for this mitten is Green Autumn. It's always weird when they name the pattern and include the color it just happened to be knit in. I guess this is Black Autumn. Which makes about as much sense really. It's from Vogue Knitting Fall 2008 and is a delightfully involved knit. Lots of fun cables and slipped stitches. After entering this project into Ravelry I see it is also called Druid Mitts. Which I don't get either.....

The German Stockings are coming along very well. And best of all FIT! I'll still need to add elastic to the top but that is more due to my lack of personal calf shaping not the pattern.

I've also restarted the Circular Jacket after getting most of the way through the Left side and realizing that while I was knitting the pattern for Medium it was coming out in Large. Ripped out and have cast on for Small, which, in theory, will give me a Medium.

August Socks

The August socks are Finished. Cauchy by Cookie A. I made these for Mr. Gnome. To make them wider I turned the ten stitch pattern repeat into 12 stitches. Just makes those little v things bigger. This is close to his favorite green in Cherry Tree Hill sock yarn. I started them back in June since I needed a non-in the car sock to knit on. The first one was finished in Vermont at Mr. Gnome's parents house.
Yes, I know it is only August 7th. And I finished them a few days ago.
And have started on September's socks. I'm trying the German Stockings again. I may need all of the next two months, as some have pointed out just so I can almost finish, rip out and make an entirely different sock. ugh I hope that doesn't happen!

Thunder(less) Cake

We recently borrowed Thunder Cake from the library. After reading it we knew we just had to make our own Thunder Cake. We waited a week for a thunderstorm and nothing. So today we gave in and made Thunderless Cake. You may be asking yourself, "Are those Grapes on that chocolate cake?" Well yes. Back when we were in Vermont my MIL made a chocolate cake and the Bug insisted it needed grapes on top. We never did figure out where she got this idea. It was actually kind of good. Different but good. Here we are doing it again.
Also the Cake's secret ingredient.

Shorter Stripey Dress

I've been playing catchup with the blogging so much lately I haven't been writing about what I'm knitting while I'm knitting it. I don't do that much but I like to. When it's all finished I don't think about the trials and experiences I had while knitting the piece.
The top of this dress it Tahki Cotton Classic and I used size 2 needles. The top went pretty quick.
The bottom of the dress is Paton's Grace and Katia Capri, which are very similar yarns, and used a size 4 needle. The pattern calls for there to be three more strips, blue, purple, then blue again. While I was knitting the seemingly endless white stripe I brought it into knitting group. Quite a few people commented that I must be almost done since it looked the right length for my daughter. Now all I was thinking about was the pattern's three more stripes. I wasn't thinking about this is being the length of a dress that really should fit my child without her tripping all over it. I'm so glad those knitter said something; I honestly think I would have kept knitting. If I'd done that the dress would've been down to the floor on the Bug. Know I figure if the Bug grows upwards more than outwards I can just pull out that blue on the bottom and make another regular stripe.

Thank goodness for knitting group!

Swirls of Color

I've wanted to make the Noro Scarf for a while. It looked like so much fun despite being 1x1 ribbing. I love color changes and seeing how things will come together. While in Virginia I got two balls of Noro Kureyon on sale. It was only after getting this yarn that I looked at the pattern and saw it uses four balls, two in each color. On closer research through Ravelry I saw that four makes a very long scarf and that shorter ones had been made with two. But how short did I want it to be? Would this work? I couldn't stand the suspense and had to cast on just to find out if it would even work. I cast on 29 stitches, 10 less than called for and used size 9 needles, a size bigger than called for. Hoping these adjustments would make me a long enough scarf. It does fit me, a tad shorter than I like but definitely wearable. And I loved making it. Watching the colors mix around and the odd pooling of turquoise in the middle. Very fun indeed.

The Bug and I found this idea on Crafty Crow and just had to try it out yesterday. We made colored ice cubes in the muffin tin and dunked them into her already very dirty kiddie pool. Watching the colors swirl as the ice melted was mesmerizing. She had a great deal of fun "painting the water". I don't do a lot of pre-planned craft ideas with her. She seems to enjoy following her own creative avenues but this was just tons of fun.
